I Am! Who?

One of the greatest undiscovered truths of the Christian Church in the 21st Century is the presence and reality of Jesus. We embrace the word "Christian", yet give scant attention to the fact that "Christ" is the root of the word and the life of the being. We associate the "I AM" with "the Door", "the Bread of Life" and all the other nouns that appear in this phrase of Biblical truth; yet Jesus, the core of Christendom is relegated to the wings, upstaged by programmes, motivational talks, concerts, manipulations by guilt and a myriad other pantomimes designed to get our attention and fill our pews.

Jesus is the "I AM"! There is really nothing else to add. Present tense of the verb to "be", He is total complete activity and power of everything and in everything, filling every cubic millimetre of created space, the cause of His own effect, and sustaining everything by His own power!

Yet our Christian experience is often barren and empty. We search, but don't find. We pray, and experience very little. Our world is in turmoil and we become enmeshed in our own survival.

And that is where we find Him! The "I AM"! Complete, no gimmicks, no magic, no trumpets . . . just Jesus!

Every situation in which we find ourselves is permitted by Him. He does not cause pain and suffering - that's brought about by fallen man! But He allows such things, first sifted through His incredible love for us, then permitted. Such things are not God's judgement on us, they are used as a sheep dog to bring us back to the Shepherd. Problems are God's way or arranging the perfect environment for us to discover Him.

Our two biggest problems are pride and unbelief: Pride makes us want things to happen our way, in our time and for our comfort. Unbelief says that our God cannot or will not do anything about our situation. What we think about God is very different to how we feel about God.

The born-again believer has Jesus. That's why we are born again! He is the "I AM". Our day is filled with multitudes of choices, and in every choice we have the opportunity of choosing Jesus. He is our life. In every situation and event, I have the choice of reacting to the event or responding to the Christ living within. I can try to resolve the situation from the resources of my own flesh, or I can respond to the totality of Deity living within my human framework.

Jesus is the "I AM". That make me the "I AM NOT"! What an honour! His strength is made perfect in weakness, and the weaker I am, the more I can rely on Him to be my "I AM".

We can glean the information, but only God can bring revelation.
